Oskar Maria Graf was born on July 22, 1894 in Berg. In the parents' house he learned the bakery trade. Then he went to Munich to become a writer. He belonged to the fighters for the revolution of 1918. In 1933 he went into exile as a dedicated antifascist. Via Vienna and Prague he arrived in New York in 1938, where he died on June 28, 1967 (Source: Wikipedia).
