The name "Saloppe" is derived from "Wutki Chalupka" ("schnapps stall"). This was a name for the bar of Russian soldiers at the time, which was located near the waterworks during the Seven Years' War (1756-1763).
The building has been used as a luxury residential complex since 2014.
There is still a beer garden above the building today.
