Icod de los Vinos is best known for the Drago Milenario. However, according to botanists, the “1,000-year-old dragon tree” is “only” 500 to 600 years old. You can only estimate its age, since it is actually not a tree, but an agave plant. As such, a dragon tree does not form annual rings from which one can read the age. With its six meters in circumference and seventeen meters in height, the Icod dragon tree is definitely the largest and oldest dragon tree in the world.
