Zagora is an oasis town in the Moroccan Drâa-Tafilalet region with about 40,000 inhabitants. It is the capital of the province of the same name. The climate is desert-like; The extremely sparse rain falls mainly in the winter months. Zagora has always been a market and trading center for the region. The well-known sign "52 Days to Timbuktu" is the last testimony of a time when Zagora in the Draa Valley was an important transit station for caravans between Morocco and the South Sahara (in the 16th century).
