The Signalstein is a striking viewing rock.
In the Middle Ages, the castles of Leienfels, Bärnfels, Obertrubach, Egloffstein and Thuisbrunn communicated and warned each other through signal fires, so-called beacons, which were lit here. A large network of waiting areas, waiting stones and signal stones reached into Thuringia. This type of warning system was used until the 19th century.

The signal stone, also known as the signal rock, is a rock about twelve meters high in the Franconian Jura. From here, at 564 meters, one of the highest and best vantage points in Franconian Switzerland, the hiker's gaze can really wander into the distance.
