Kanzeonji is a temple of the Tendai sect of Japanese Buddhism and was built in 746. While Dazaifu served as the administrative center (710-1185), Kanzeonji was Kyushu's most important temple. As Dazaifu lost its political influence, also followed the loss of importance of the temple.
