Until the middle of the 20th century, the mining of slate in 21 pits around the main source of income of the Oberkirner was. Today, only the numerous heaps and several dozen tunnels on the valley slope of the Kyrbach testify to this past. Beyond the beautiful Kyrbach Bridge, built entirely of slate stone by local architect Philipp Klein in 1878, the statue of St. Barbara - the patron saint of miners - testifies in a rock niche of traditional and deeply rooted popular piety.
