The Upper Gate was built in 1792 under Prince Ludwig Friedrich Karl of Hohenlohe-Neuenstein-Öhringen by Johann Wilhelm Glenck and Johann Georg Glenck.
The panels on the east side show the prince's initials as well as the motto and the large princely coat of arms of the main Hohenlohe-Neuenstein line. The iron gate wings were removed in 1835, the pedestrian passages date from 1955 and thus from the time when traffic was still directed through the city center and the Upper Gate.
