The building was erected at the beginning of the 20th century, taking advantage of an earlier one from the 16th century and a Renaissance palace to bring together, in the same space, the scattered work of the artist. The Marquis de la Vega-Inclán was the one who acquired these buildings and complemented them with furniture and fixtures from the 16th century. The museum opened in 1912.
