'Point Piños Lighthouse' is the second oldest and also the longest continuously operating lighthouse on the Californian Pacific coast. Located near Pacific Grove, the navigation mark was put into service in February 1855 and has since served as a navigational aid at the southern entrance to Monterey Bay, which is particularly dangerous because of its rocks. The lighthouse is particularly famous for the fact that two of its keepers were women.

Hiking

Only the foundations remain of former lighthouses. The current lighthouse, also historic meanwhile, is a few hundred yards further inlands. The trail across the road leads along the water, with views of rocks off shore, some with romantic names.
