Old Rhine Footbridge Rheinaue - Geisenheim 🚴‍♂️

The "Old Rhine Footbridge Rheinaue" is located on the towpath cycle path parallel to the B42. At the level of Geisenheim's "Mauerackerweg," you cross the Old Rhine branch to the "Schönborn'sche Aue."
The crossing is comfortable and easily passable for cyclists and pedestrians in both directions.🚴‍♂️

Between 2013 and 2015, the former oxbow of the Rhine in the Rheinaue near Geisenheim was renaturalized. In the 19th century, the former island of "Schönborn'sche Aue," which is now used for agriculture and as a site for allotment gardens, was permanently connected to the Rhine bank.
During the renaturation project, the riverbed of the former oxbow lake was restored through dredging, allowing the Rhine to flow permanently through this area for approximately 1.2 kilometers, and the Schönborn floodplain now exists as an island once again. The Schönborn floodplain island is connected to the Rhine bank via two bridges, which primarily carry the towpath. The new towpath bridge at the outlet to the Rhine connects the allotment gardens. Since the towpath, a combined cycle and footpath, crosses the old Rhine branch, a new footbridge also had to be built. The popular cycle and footpath, with its avenue of mature poplar trees, now allows all visitors to the island to experience the renaturalized areas and the floodplain landscape with its wildlife.

Do what you want, you can get over dry (except when it rains).
