This is where the north-best comes from, unspectacular.

River sources are always a highlight for me, although many are not spectacular - this even has a marker.

The source of the best is at 44 m above sea level. NN at Mollhagen, a district of Steinburg (Stormarn). It then flows fairly straightforward 3.5 km to the A 1, which crosses it 1 km north of the BAB exit Bargteheide. From there it flows in meanders past the forest Rehbrook, into the mill pond of the estate Lasbek. This is also fed by Groot Beek and Lütt Beek.

The source of the Norderbeste is not fixed, since the river originates from the outflowing waters of the Lunder Moors and the Nienwohlder Moors south of Itzstedt; however, there is a marker in the bog that points to the source of the Norderbeste.
The moors are located at 29 m above sea level and are part of the watershed between the North Sea and Baltic Sea. The Norderbeste flows east past Itzstedt and is dammed at Borstel to the mill pond. After she has passed Tönnigstedt south to 20 m above sea level and Sülfeld north, she flows through the Grabauer lake. Again, the Norderbeste used to power a watermill. At Neritz, water is still taken from the mill ground, before the confluence with the south best occurs shortly before the motorway crossing (A 21). In the Sülfeld - Borstel area, the northernmost was renatured in 2008.

        What a coincidence! I didn't think I'd come across a source here.
        A nice surprise.

Unfortunately, there was no water to be seen at the moment.
