Remarkable: The "hilltop castle" Reifenberg is over 600 meters high, making it the highest castle in the Taunus (626 m above sea level) and even one of the highest north of the Alps! A visit is worthwhile just for the great view.
Admission is free, by the way - it is open to visitors during the day.
Tip: If you would like to go up the castle tower, you can borrow the key against a deposit from the nearby hotel "Haus Reifenberg" during the week.

The Reifenberg ruins in Oberreifenberg are the highest medieval castle in the Taunus and still offer an impressive sight. The ancestral seat of a warlike family experienced some destruction, but remained a "solid mountain house" until it was demolished at the end of the 17th century.
The start of construction of the ancestral seat of the Reiffenberg family (from "Riffinberg"), who were later divided into the Westerwald and Wetterau lines and were considered wild, feud-loving and invincible, remains a mystery. It was indirectly mentioned in 1234, but first entered history in documents in 1331. It was destroyed several times, but the Ganerbenburg (common inheritance and shared residence of several families) was continually rebuilt and expanded.
