An old forest on the edge of the faluintjes. The forest is a remnant of the former Coal Forest. In the autumn, enjoy the colours and scents. In the spring, the purple Bluebells.

A must to wander around in this forest.

The Kravaalbos is approximately 80 hectares. In the middle ages, the forest became famous for its quarries. Like the Sonian Forest and the Meerdaal Forest, it is part of the remnants of the large coal forest that covered this area for centuries. The name 'coal forest' was given by Julius Caesar in his war diary De Bello Gallico, when he and his army penetrated the almost impenetrable forest. The name referred to the general use of the extraction of charcoal for melting the ferruginous sandstone (limonite) that occurs in various places in our region. Precisely that use led to large parts becoming deforested. A large part of the Kravaalbos is now protected as a nature reserve

Varied forest, beautiful paths that can sometimes be muddy. Furthermore, the forest feels rather wild, fallen trees are only removed on narrower paths if the passage is too much hindered. Much attention is also paid to ensuring that the permanent forest inhabitants can do their thing as undisturbed as possible.
