“I didn’t come this far to only come this far”. A sentence that became my mantra on my latest adventure. A 100-mile (162 km) ultra hike organised by the fab team at Legendstrails. Their races are designed to be so hard as to minimise your chances of finishing them. This is not meant in a bad way. It is because they believe that the learnings from a “did not finish” are much more valuable than taking home a medal after a successful finish. And exactly that happened to me. I failed to finish 2 of their races this year, in February and in September, after finishing 2 last year. I knew how difficult it would be again to make it for this year’s edition of the Bello Gallico. They call it “another kind of Christmas party”. I will pack the detailed adventure report into my blog in a few days, but let me say this. I was at the right time and the right place. Spending two full winter nights outside and two days made me incredibly happy and challenged me to the absolute limit and beyond. I took another step closer on the infinite ladder to answer the question “why these challenges are so important for me” and why it serves me to choose hardship for some hours and days instead of the comfort of my life at home. Sweat, pain, tears… and laughter, joy, companionship, and some fun hallucinations on the second night without sleep :) More to come soon. Don’t forget to stay awesome and have a happy Christmas.

A bit absent here since the birth of my daughter 10 months ago but time is limited to hang out in socials. Still sharing this highlight of last weekend. The Great Escape organised by Legends Trails was on. After finishing the 160km last year I gave it a try again this year. I knew that it won’t be an easy one as I am lacking sleep a lot and my willingness to suffer and push through the pain these adventures require is not at the same level as before my daughter was born. However, one needs to try to find out. And the trail in the Ardennes is absolutely stunning. Long story short, after 80km I called it a day. It was a beautiful night and many hours out there which made me feel alive. And I am grateful my body allowed me to go through it relatively pain free - despite the blisters which I always get on these distances. But the feeling that my place is with my family was stronger and so I abandoned the race halfway through. Still a great adventure and I am back to try again in December at the 160km Bello Gallico. Until soon and don’t forget to stay awesome 🙌

DNF. Three letters no endurance athlete wants to see. But here we are. My first Did Not Finish in long-distance adventures. And you know what? I’m strangely at peace with it.
The Legends Trail threw everything at us- 275 km of technical trails, freezing cold
While this may be the slowest hike I've ever done, it serves as good training to be present in the moment. It also gave me time to reflect on what it would be like to live in such a beautiful place, surrounded by nature, instead of in a big, bustling, noisy, and polluted city. I didn’t find an answer
Early morning walk with the little one. The perks of sleepless nights are that no one else is on those trails.

Wow. I initially thought this was a bike ride until I looked closer. What a phenomenal achievement! Congratulations. Legend.
