If you want to hike in a quiet, beautiful river valley without car traffic and big tourist crowds, this is the place for you.
The Aufseß flows in the middle of the natural park Franconian Switzerland-Veldensteiner Forst. Between Desert Stone and Doos there is no road in the valley of the Aufseß, which makes the about six kilometers long valley area suitable as a hiking area. The Aufseßtal hiking trail is a section of the Main-Danube-Route (Juralinie). The creek, which flows into the Wiesent and bears the same name as the old Frankish noble family of this area, is a still very natural Kalksteinbach the trout region. At its mouth in the Wiesent formed the Aufseß at a around 1850 mined, about three meters high lime tuff barrier the Doos, once the most massive waterfall in Franconia.
