The Schauenforst castle ruins are located on the foremost spur of a narrow limestone tongue. The light tower catches the eye from afar. The castle can be reached quickly from Rödelwitz, but the way up invites you to linger and look out over the beautiful landscape. The Schauenforst is the scenic and historical landmark of the "Hexengrund". In which years and by whom the castle was built is not documented. Only a memo from the year 1662 describes the Schauenforst as "desolate". Today the castle association Schauenforst e.V. in Rödelwitz thankfully takes care of the facilities and invites every year in July to the "Schauenforstfest". An event that is known and loved throughout the Hexengrund.

A stay here and in the area with the old beech stands is always recommended, whether on foot or by bike, is easy to reach with a detour from Hohe Strasse. Of course, a tea break at the Schauenforst is a good idea - but please do not leave a garbage! In fine weather, sun still lolls through the leafy crowns ... wonderful.
