Update: the Hydro Bothy has been demolished.

The Hydro Bothy is well known in bikepacking circles, formerly a cement store for the pipeline to Orrin Reservoir. It's anything but glamorous, but can provide much needed shelter from the Scottish elements. This is the climb to the bothy from the South, Struy, which is pretty steep in places - you may need to walk!

  • Nice rocky climb up the mountain to the upper glen and eventually to what once was the Hydro Bothy, until it got demolished. It wasn't a special bothy, but the road is still worth the ride. Ends up taking you to the Loch Orrin dam and eventually down to Muir of Ord. Great loop to ride!

  • Steep, beautiful, steep path from the valley.

  • Beautiful climb towards Loch orrin dam! Hydro Bothy was originally a perfect hide-out on this plateau
