Today the Scheidgraben runs through the Ried – formerly the river bed of the Ur-Neckar. Even in Roman times, the great river Neckar was found here on its way to the Rhine. Today, numerous nature reserves (often wetlands with swamps and reeds, sometimes wet meadows) in the Ried bear witness to the former courses of the river.
