Tórshavn is the capital of the Faroe Islands and is located on the island of Streymoy. It is known for the old town on the Tinganes peninsula with its wooden houses with turf roofs crowded together. Nearby is Tórshavn Cathedral, which was rebuilt in the 19th century. The pedestrian street Niels Finsensgøta is lined with small shops. A little further north is the Haus des Nordens, a modern cultural center that hosts theatre, dance and music events.
