This monument is located not far from the Saalburg and is worth a short detour.

The Jupiter Column was erected at the beginning of the 20th century as one of the attractions of the Roman fort Saalburg, which had just been reconstructed at that time. It is a supplemented copy of a stone monument that had been discovered and recovered shortly before in Mainz. The column presumably dates back to the first century of our era and was dedicated to the highest among the gods of Roman antiquity, Jupiter. The originals of the found fragments are in the Landesmuseum Mainz.
