Here a memorial stone commemorates the folly of the war. Especially the last months in II. WK had to take a lot of losses. This one in Oberscheidweiler was as nonsensical as the war and wars. The blackboard reminds of the happenings

"The two world wars of 1914/18 and 1939/45 tore large gaps in the village community. Many men, some of whom were very young, died or are missing to this day.

March 18, 1945 went down in village history as a particularly horrific, painful day.

On that day, at the behest of the Americans, men from the village had to bury horse carcasses that lay above the Oberscheidweiler mill. On the way home they encountered an American column of vehicles loaded with heavy bridge components in the "Kalwawiss", the valley between the "Berghof" and the village. The men stepped aside and walked straight onto the deadly mines laid by the German soldiers stationed in the village without leaving a map.

Not only those directly involved, but also the people from the village who rushed to help lost their lives or were injured so badly that they are still suffering to this day. Four men were killed instantly; one died on the way to the hospital and another a few days later. A woman and a man died several years later as a result of the accident!

It is reported that the Americans spontaneously and generously provided first aid.

50 years later, the local community erected a memorial stone at the site of the accident with the following inscription:

      > ."
