From the north you can reach the plateau of Pfaffenstein the fastest way over the bottleneck. The path consists of about 600 unevenly high steps and is so narrow in its upper section that no two people can find space next to each other. Also, the 1897 developed path towards the end is so steep that the climb must be made on permanently installed iron ladders. You pass through a horizontal, quite narrow rock hole - just a needle eye.
