The pine is the second most common tree species grown in Germany (after the spruce). It grows quickly up to 50 meters in height and has deep roots. It is mostly found on nutrient-poor soils. With a diameter of 35-40cm, it is "harvested" at just under 80 years of age. It is easiest to distinguish it from other conifers by its long needles.
