nice pumping station to control the water height. Some serious engines can be seen through the windows.

Beautiful piece of history, now 100 years old: In 1920, the electric pumping station Waterwolf in the Reitdiep began its important task, the drainage of water from a large part of the province of Groningen and the head of Drenthe. The Waterwolf was unique for its time and is a beautiful piece of industrial heritage. The pumping station is still in operation today. In fact, it plays a key role in the drainage of excess water towards the Wadden Sea. A great place to take a break. Often also because in the summer the old bridge in the Reitdiep next to it is often open to allow boats to pass between the Lauwersmeer and the city of Groningen via the lock.
