On the open area south of the shooting site was up to the Niddar district "Harb" in the unspeakable time from 1939 to 1945, an airfield of the German Wehrmacht. Like all these airfields, it had bunkers in the immediate vicinity for the soldiers to protect from possible bombing. What happened several times in the last days of the war. Only in the very last days of the war, when the Americans were almost in sight west of the square, the soldiers fled east towards Vogelsberg. But not without first as well it was possible to blow up all airplanes, buildings and facilities, which obviously also happened with this bunker built of heavy concrete. So today, many decades later hidden in this piece of wood, the remnants serve as a reminder.
