The park, which offers space for rest and relaxation on a total of around twelve hectares in the center, was founded in 1870 by Wilhelm Ferdinand Mitscherlich (1826 - 1895). It also contains the animal park, a playground and the swan pond. The rose garden is right next to the train station. This true gem of gardening and landscaping was created in 1932/1933 during the global economic crisis as part of an ABM (job creation scheme). The design idea for this rose garden is said to have come from the later long-time city gardener Edwin Köhler. In 2004, mainly due to the damage caused by the flood of the millennium in August 2002, far-reaching care measures in the wooded area became necessary. This alone includes 1200 to 1300 trees (not including the zoo). Source: https://eilenburg.de/tourismus/stadtpark

Mitteldeutsche Motorenwerke GmbH (MMW, also MiMo) was a company based in Leipzig (from 1939 Taucha) that existed from 1935 to 1948 and belonged to the Auto Union group. MiMo manufactured Junkers aircraft engines under license and was Auto Union's third-largest plant after Horch in Zwickau and the Siegmar plant (formerly Wanderer) near Chemnitz. The factory was located northwest of Taucha in a wooded area, part of which belonged to Leipzig-Portitz. The production program primarily consisted of the Junkers Jumo 205, Jumo 211, and Jumo 213 engines, as well as components for the Jumo 004 jet turbine. At the time, the company employed 10,000 people (including forced laborers). As an armaments factory, the plant was partially dismantled after the end of the war in 1947, and the remaining structures were demolished. The company was removed from the commercial register of the Leipzig District Court on August 27, 1948. Source: Wikipedia
