Adventure is often just around the corner and almost on your doorstep. Your surroundings are full of breathtaking landscapes, secret idylls and staggering wild animals. You might only catch glimpses of them, but in several places in Saxony and Saxony-Anhalt, you can easily visit the wild animals by bus and train.

Bears, wolves, falcons and even some exotic wild animals live right around the corner. Large game enclosures, semi-natural animal parks, grazing projects and even a bear pit are all focused on preserving native species and protecting wildlife. There are always exciting guided tours and other events so you get to know the animals.

We’ve picked out the best animal adventures in the area and combined them with other highlights to create 8 to 20 kilometre-long (5 - 12 mi) hikes. Due to the flat paths and easy routes, these wonderful hikes are also great for children.

You can travel to each of the Tours by public transport. The starting points of the hikes are always at a spot that you can reach by train, S-Bahn, tram or bus. Your destination is also always well connected to the local transport network so you don't have to worry about possible traffic jams on the way to your adventures.

When you're ready for your meeting with Master Petz, the descendants of Europe's last wild horses, or the coatis in Germany's smallest zoo, pick a Tour and plan your trip. These walks often give you the chance to get up close to the animals and even pet them so it’s important to always follow the rules and feed them only with the food provided. This way you can also do your part to protect the animals.
