Discover sandy heaths, fragrant forests, winding villages and unique stories – tales that exist because different eras have left their traces in the German county of Bentheim. Do you know, for example, what ‘Bentheimer Gold’ is? Or that there is a breed of sheep named after the county?
In this Collection, you will find the answers to these and other questions. The Grafschafter Spurensuche (clue paths) offer you a total of 400 kilometres (250 mi) of signposted hiking trails. We present six exciting and varied Tours, each dedicated to a different theme. These circular walks are between 7 and 24 kilometres (4 and 15 mi) long, but can also be adapted if required.
Discover the different faces and landscapes of Grafschaft Bentheim, right on the border with the Netherlands. ‘On the trail of the Bronze Age’ you even make a short detour into the neighbouring country. All the hiking trails are easy to follow and are perfect for family outings. Go in search of clues and get to know the many facets of the county.
