This promising, around 15-kilometer hike leads you from Forchheim to Eggolsheim. Particularly practical: you can easily reach both the start and finish point with the S1.From the Forchheim train station, you first stroll through the village until you dive into the quiet, wintry forest. It goes gently uphill through the forest towards Serlbach. The original Franconian village is located on a clearing island surrounded by dense forest. You cross the village and shortly afterwards you will pass some fish farming ponds in the forest. Now it is slowly getting steeper, because next the Retterner Kanzel is waiting for you with its wonderful view. This view was already extremely popular in the Middle Ages, which is why the traces of a ruined hilltop castle can be found up here.At the same height, our tour takes you through the forest to the second highlight: the Högelstein. After you've had enough of the magnificent view, it goes downhill and over villages and fields to the destination in Eggolsheim. Before you get on the S1 at the train station and start your return journey, you can take a break in the pizzeria “La Shega” or in the “Blauer Maus”.

From the Regnitz valley you climb on this 16-kilometer hike up to the Kellerwald, experience the colorful farmland around Serlbach and then climb the Jura plateau. On the way, highlights such as the Vexierkapelle or the Reifenberger Keller beckon before you descend into the wide valley of the Wiesent, which leads you to the end of the hike in Ebermannstadt. You start the hike at Forchheim train station (lines R2 / S1) and soon leave the city behind you. The streets get smaller and smaller until you switch to paths and paths that are lined with deciduous forest, a small pond and here and there a bench to rest. Alternating with open meadows and fields, the route initially climbs leisurely. The path meanders through a forest and ends in front of a hikers' car park, where it is worthwhile to turn left briefly to enjoy the first views, including the Jägersburg Castle and the Regnitz basin.Back again, the ascent to the 506 meter high Rettener Kanzel begins with a wonderful view of the upper Wiesent valley, across to Kirchehrenbach and Walberla or right to Jägersburg Castle. When you've seen enough, the descent begins. Accompanied by lush vegetation, mighty spruce trunks and past a small spring with a wooden trough, where you can refresh yourself, you slowly descend to the next opportunity to take a break. After a hikers' car park, it is first advisable to take the path straight up to the Vexierkapelle before you stop for a well-deserved meal or snack in the Reifenberger cellar. In the further course you can soon enjoy beautiful views of the opposite side of the Wiesenttal, which you are slowly approaching. After you have crossed the eponymous river, you are almost there and follow its course for a while to Ebermannstadt - from a distance you can orient yourself by the church tower. The destination of the hike is the train station, but of course it is worth making a short detour to the city beforehand. On the market square, numerous restaurants and cafes invite you to a nice end to this hike. You can get back to the starting point of the hike to Forchheim quickly and easily by train (with the R22).

⛰️ Summit action in the Ochsenkopf adventure region. At 1,024 meters, the Ochsenkopf is the second highest peak in the Fichtelgebirge and in all of Franconia. Only the Schneeberg opposite towers over it by almost 25 meters. But the Ochsenkopf has one convenient advantage - you can take the chairlift up here. That's exactly why we're going up here in VGN summer 2021.Up on the "roof of Franconia" you can expect picturesque rock and peaks. In addition, the Ochsenkopf has great action and adventure potential - but we won't reveal more here. If you just feel like hiking, you can really let off steam in the Fichtel Mountains: deep forests, natural hiking trails and many peaks crowned by rocks want to be explored. Our tour takes you straight to our favorite places and you experience culture, nature and cuisine in the Ochsenkopf combo all-round blow!Take your time with you and - when the weather is nice - your bathing outfit too - the Fichtelsee is calling!

🍺 Brewery hopping à la Franconia: In Franconian Tuscany, it goes comfortably from brewery to brewery. And there is plenty of it on our VGN summer hike - so bring a large backpack for your shopping.Long before the craft beer trend, the small Franconian breweries did just that: the finest beers with first-class ingredients, in small quantities and tailored to different tastes. The whole thing is then poured out directly in the brewery-inn and served with hearty Franconian cuisine. And there is wonderful nature on top of our hike! The mix of Mediterranean flair with rustic Franconian beer enjoyment is ready.
