About Rolf

On German Unity Day, golden autumn weather is forecast. So I decided to climb the Breitenstein again and explore the hidden paths to the Breitensteinfensterl (window of the Breitenstein).
I start in Brannenburg, following new paths with a variety of ups and downs (mainly on...) to the Breitenstein. There

Three years ago, a cask of whisky in its first weeks of maturation greeted us at the Anton Karg House in the Kaisertal Valley, along with an invitation to reserve a bottle.
The maturation period is now over – unfortunately, so is the hut's season. So, take a day off and head to Kufstein!

I've now walked past Walchensee five times on the way to Mittenwald, and each time I saw the mighty Simetsberg on my right, I thought I'd like to climb it. But usually, I'd already had 75 kilometers in my legs and my thoughts quickly refocused on the upcoming Buckelwiesen.
Today, I set off rested in Eschenlohe

My fifth ascent of the Zugspitze, today again via the Reintal Valley.
First subway, first train: Zugspitze Day! I set off from Garmisch at 6:30 a.m., bypassing the Partnach Gorge (still closed), and following the Partnach River to the Reintalanger Hut.
Shortly afterward, I've covered three-quarters of

@Joggingbrot 🏃🏻🥖 gets an appetite for kebabs when he sees a "DÖ" sign at the German-Austrian border in my hiking photos, and I do when the weather forecast predicts early morning fog over Wolfratshausen.
Because there, near Pamukkale, they have the best kebab in the entire Oberland region. So why not

After the heart of Munich, another inspiring tour of the @Feuerläuferin : Along the Prien River from its source above Sachrang to its mouth in Lake Chiemsee. A great idea for the last day before work and the rain in the near future.
My train station vision searches for the closest station to the Prien

The Stuttgart Mammutmarsch is approaching, and I want to train for another 60 kilometers. My Slyrs supplies are still sufficient, so today I'm not going to Schliersee, but to Rosenheim. I take a route above the Panorama Route along the Mangfall River, past Maxlrain.
Conveniently, I start at my front door

The Oberland is cut off from rail traffic, so I head back to my favorite hiking station in Kufstein.
The climb into the Kaisertal and large parts of the trail to Hinterbärenbad are thankfully still in the shade. The Anton Karg House is also still closed this early (but my whiskey, which is maturing there

Today I'm exploring a different trail between the Inn Valley and the foot of the Wendelstein: the ridge path over the Kleiner and Grosser Traithen to the Brünnsteinhaus – with fantastic views from the Zugspitze, across Austria's 4,000-meter peaks, to the Wilder Kaiser.
I start in Bayrischzell, heading

After last year's 100km run, today's run is an absolute delight: start in daylight, finish in daylight, fantastic views of Stuttgart in beautiful autumn weather, and superb organization by the Mammut team.
We start at sunrise in Zuffenhausen, with the first 15km warm-up run through the forest. VP1, after
