From the Wallhausen hiking parking lot, we start on a sunny path towards Marienschlucht.

Past the Burghof, it goes down to the Seerundweg. On this path/trail, we go through small gorges and over footbridges to Marienschlucht.

This was recently reopened after 2 hikers had an accident in 2015 due to a landslide

Short final loop in Sao Martinho, our flight isn't until the afternoon! Our guide Rodriguez recommended this Levada dos Piornais to us. Beautiful flowers and free! Wonderful narrow levada and "thank you Rodriguez" we found the bar with the best Poncha ever! We don't need a Farmacia anymore😂

In Vale Paraiso, at about 800m, we set off on a level path in a light drizzle.

Today we went on a guided Levada hike, Rabacal 25 Fontes. Private transfer and a small group.



We arrived at the parking lot through a fairytale laurel forest and across the Paul do Serra plateau. It was already packed with cars 😯 I wonder if the €4.50 hiking fee will be enough to manage it?

After yesterday's island tour of western Madeira, including Cabo Girão, Ribeira Brava, Porto Moniz, and Paul do Serra, we took a taxi up to the Jardim Botanico today. So, very much in the style of retirees, and still a bit weak from the flu 😉
