Wendefurth Pumped-Storage Power Plant

Highlight • Monument

The pumped-storage power plant Wendefurth, also known as pumped-storage power station Wendefurth, is the only pumped-storage power plant in Saxony-Anhalt. It is located in the Harz district near the Thaler district of Wendefurth an der Bode and uses an upper basin located above the Wendefurth dam to generate electricity. The construction began in 1960 and commissioning in 1967. From 2012 to 2014, the power plant underwent a revision and modernization (Wikipedia).

Rappbode Dam

Highlight • Monument

The 106 meter high Rappbodetalsperre is located directly at the entrance to the Bodetal and has been protecting the villages in the valley from flooding for over 50 years.
The Rappbodetalsperre is 415 meters long and with a height of 106 meters it is also the largest dam in Germany. It is able to hold a water surface of 390 hectares and more than 109 million cubic meters of water.
The Rappbodetalsperre forms the core of a large-scale dam system in the Eastern Harz, which consists of the Rappbode and Hassel pre-dams, the transfer dam at Königshütte, the Kalte Bode flood protection basin (almond wood reservoir) near Königshütte, as well as the dam and the Wendefurth pumped storage plant.

Until my arrival at the Rappbodetalsperre I did not know that there is such a spectacular suspension bridge. What was built there as a public attraction is definitely worth a visit. The whole paired with an impressive mountain landscape.

Nord Portal TitanRT

Highlight • Other

In the middle of the Rappbodetal, the "Titan-RT" spans an incredible 458.5 meters in total length over the Bode reservoir. The filigree rope construction was completed in the spring of 2017 and claws with the enormous pulling power of 947 tons in the slate rocks on both sides of the valley. Four main 65 mm diameter carrying cables form the backbone of the 120-tonne structure. In addition, the bridge is held in place with 2 stabilization ropes in shape and at higher wind speeds. The catwalk (grid) of 120 cm width is lined along its entire length by a 130 cm high railing and is laterally closed by stainless steel nets. titan-rt.de/die-bruecke.html

Access Path to Titan RT Suspension Bridge

Highlight (Segment) • Trail

This section is the access to the highlight at the dam. Here you can put your courage to the test and cross the suspension bridge, race down the valley as a flying person or just jump down into the valley on a huge swing.

Harzdrenalin Visitor Center

Highlight • Rest Area

Official parking is available directly on the north-west side of the Titan-RT suspension bridge. Titan-RT can also be walked on from this side. (on the Titan-RT there is currently a "one-way street" principle due to corona regulations!)

The car park is comfortable and large enough even when there is a large number of visitors.

Parking fees (as of 04/2022): 2.50 euros for a maximum of 3 hours (5.00 euros for the entire day)

When entering the parking lot, the vehicle number is automatically recorded and confirmed on an information board. The car number is then given before the exit when paying at the parking machine.
