From Tenterden to 'the sea and the sky' Herne bay

The route runs from Tenterden to our lovely airbnb (search The Sea and The Sky - Booking.com). It heads north to Charing and then northeast to Faversham, taking in the nature reserve in Oare before largely following the coast. There are two hills of note. The climb to the top of Charing features a maximum gradient of 17%, but is followed by a steady coast down the other side all the way to the sea. The inland section offers relaxed cycling through deserted, open agricultural land and orchards. It features mile after mile of moss-centred, single-track public roads with only a few major crossings to navigate. Halfway through the ride, the scenery shifts to the coast, offering estuary views, salt marshes, and the thin channel separating Kent from the Isle of Sheppey. The coastal stretch passes through Oare, Faversham, Whitstable, and Swalecliffe, providing opportunities to spot local coastal birds before concluding in Herne Bay.
