from Hauptbahnhof Potsdam to peacock isle through babelsberg park and wasnssee isle

Starting at Potsdam Hauptbahnhof, the hike begins behind the station through Nuthepark, following the right bank of the Havel towards Park Babelsberg.

As the main gate to Babelsberg Park was closed, we made a short detour and entered through the old entrance. From there, the route climbs gently up to the Flatowturm, which offers fantastic panoramic views over the Havel and Potsdam. We continued through the beautifully landscaped park, passing the Gerichtslaube and then Schloss Babelsberg with its impressive gardens and views.

The route continues towards Wannsee and Park Klein-Glienicke, where we visited Schloss Glienicke. From here onwards, the trail becomes particularly pleasant and shady, crossing wooded areas towards the ferry port. The paths are a mix of gravel and some muddy sections in Park Klein-Glienicke, while the paths in Babelsberg are generally well-maintained and mostly packed gravel.

We then took the ferry (6€) across to Pfaueninsel and followed the paths around the entire island, enjoying the peaceful woodland, historic surroundings and views across the water.

After completing the loop of Pfaueninsel, we retraced our route to the Glienicker Brücke. From the bridge, we continued along paved sidewalks and gravel paths, eventually reaching Freundschaftsinsel before returning to Potsdam Hauptbahnhof.

A very varied hike combining riverside trails, historic parks, palaces, woodland, ferry crossings and beautiful views. The route is particularly enjoyable for the shaded paths around Park Klein-Glienicke and Wannsee. Expect mostly easy walking, with a few muddy sections and some gentle climbs around Babelsberg.
