Das Kap ist eine 43 Meter hohe, aus Kreide und Geschiebemergel bestehende Steilküste im Norden Rügens (Halbinsel Wittow) und es ist der fast nördlichste Punkt der Insel. Der tatsächlich nördlichste Punkt liegt in der Nähe des Kap Arkona auf einer kleinen Landzunge und nennt sich Gellort. Unterhalb des Gellorts liegt der viertgrößte Findling Rügens – der 167 Tonnen schwere Siebenschneiderstein.
