Today I headed up Helvellyn solo from the *Glenridding car park*, which you do need to pay for if you’re starting there. The weather was incredible all day, blue skies the whole way, and I was buzzing the entire time.
The scramble itself felt relatively easy for me, especially after having done *Tryfan* solo and *Crib Goch* with my boyfriend before. At the chimney I just took my time. There were a few people around but no one seemed keen to go first, so I went for it. On the way down I heard others talking about a group with a dog who’d been struggling at that bit.
The summit was everything — arms up, Enigma playing in my ears with "Return to Innocence"and a few people actually following my steps up. I’m officially not an amateur anymore 😁
Coming down was a different story. The route from the map had about a mile with no proper path, just grass between bushes and loads of moss that would drop away under your boots. It was annoying and a bit sketchy, so I probably wouldn’t do that way down again.
Overall I’m so proud. Did it on my own terms, felt strong, and came home safe.
