We’ve had a lovely couple of nights at Lake Bled, staying in Hotel Park on the lakeside. On arrival on Monday 4th May it was very hot and sunny, around 25 degrees. After a cheese and meat board by the lake we took a walk round to the castle for some amazing views.

On Tuesday, we did the hike up to the view point at Mala Osojnica before taking the Pletna boat over to the island.

Wednesday 8 May was Day 1 of our 6-day cycle from Lake Bled to Piran and was a very damp start! This first stretch was probably the easiest, cycling from Bled through the Radovna Valley to Kranjska Gora. Just as well because we got a soaking!

We followed the Radovna River into the quiet Radovna Valley, where the sound of the water and the cool morning air would have made the ride feel almost meditative. If it wasn’t for the persistent rain…

Along the way, we pedaled past Lake Kreda and admired its turquoise waters. Soon after, we passed the entrances to Slovenia’s three iconic glacial valleys beneath Mt. Triglav—Vrata, Kot, and Krma, bordering the Triglav National Park.

Our ascent ended in Zgornja Radovna, a peaceful hamlet tucked between meadows and forest. From there, we descended into Mojstrana, a village that feels like the gateway to the high mountains.

From Mojstrana, we joined the cycling route toward Kranjska Gora, following the Sava Dolinka River as it winds up the valley. The scenery opened beautifully—fields stretching out on both sides, the steep and dramatic Julian Alps rising to our left, and the forested slopes of the Karawanks lining our right.

Passing through villages like Gozd Martuljek, we were treated to some of the most majestic mountain views of the entire trip. It was the kind of stage that reminds you why cycling in Slovenia feels like riding through a postcard.

We arrived in Kranjska Gora and the charmingly rustic Berghi Hotel where there were plenty of places to hang our wet gear. We enjoyed a lovely meal at xx
