Organizatorem przedsięwzięcia jest austriacka fundacja „Wings For Life” założona w 2004 roku przez Heinza Kinigadnera, dwukrotnego mistrza świata w motocrossie, oraz Dietricha Mateschitza, założyciela firmy Red Bull GmbH. Syn i brat Kinigadnera, także uprawiający motocross, ulegli poważnym wypadkom, w wyniku których zostali częściowo sparaliżowani.
