This afternoon ride through the Cijevna River Canyon (often called the "Montenegrin Colorado") takes you from the outskirts of Podgorica into one of the most dramatic karst landscapes in the Balkans. Carved by the turquoise Cijevna (cem) River, which springs from the Prokletije Mountains in Albania, the canyon features narrow limestone cliffs.
As you pedal eastward, the terrain transitions from the fertile Zeta plain and the sprawling vineyards of Plantaže into a rugged gorge known for its high biodiversity—including over 800 plant species and the rare Egyptian vulture. You'll pass through tiny hamlets like Lovka, a rising star in the rock-climbing world, where vertical limestone faces offer thousands of potential routes. Whether you're stopping for a breather at "Hidden Miles" or cooling off at the emerald pools near the Albanian border, the ride offers a stark, beautiful contrast between the sun-scorched karst and the ice-cold, drinkable waters of the river.
