Finally made it!!
If the Cotswolds and a history book had a very posh baby, it would be Sherborne. This Dorset gem is famous for having not one, but two castles: a sturdy 12th-century ruin and a "new" 1594 Elizabethan mansion built by Sir Walter Raleigh.
The crown jewel is Sherborne Abbey, a golden-hued masterpiece featuring some of the finest fan vaulting in England. With its medieval almshouse and prestigious schools, the town feels like a film set for a period drama. It’s a place where the honey-colored Hamstone glows, the boutiques are artisanal, and the history is unapologetically grand.
