Wrapping up my trip to Europe 🇪🇺 on a (very) high note after another bucket list ride going back in time more than 30(!) years to the summer of 1994. 😄
This exact 100-mile (one way) route between Oldenburg and Hannover used to be my long-distance training route back in college. 😎
In Hannover, I stopped at my old apartment building (Hahnenstr. 3), which is super close to campus and my last residence before coming to 🇺🇸 in 1995.
Unfortunately, I had a flat tire 😤 shortly after the turnaround point in Hannover. Even though I had spare tube and tools with me, I decided to have the bike mechanic do it for me since this mishap literally happened right in front of his shop. 😅 I lost approximately 30 minutes but used time wisely for resupply at a close by gas station.
At the end, I still managed to complete the ride in under 13 hours with only 25(!) seconds to spare. 😂
First leg to Hannover was rather speedy with avg. pace of 30.2 km/h. Of course, I couldn’t sustain that on the second leg back to Oldenburg.
Nevertheless, starting AND finishing my trip with a 200-mile ride is more than what I could have hoped for with a few more adventures in between. ☺️
Over the course of this memorable 5-week trip, I rode 2,265 km or 1,408 miles, Road and MTB combined.
Note: HUGE surprise 😳 on my way to Hannover… I couldn’t believe my eyes that there was a Dodge Challenger SRT Widebody in Sublime Green passing me. 😎 The chances to see one of these here in Germany are 1 in 100,000, easily, if not 1 in a million… Can’t wait to drive mine again after I get back to Michigan on Sunday.
