Today we took advantage of the beautiful sunny weather 🌞🌞🌞 and hiked the premium hiking trail "Der Meininger" completely for the first time. We also hiked the start and end point of the circular hiking trail at the arched bridge in the castle park, so our tour is a little longer than the official 10.7 km. Counter-clockwise we went to the Diezhäuschen, Schaubachhütte, then to the turning point not far from Landsberg Castle. The way back then went via the Habichtsburg castle ruins, Henriettenplatz and the Dietrichskopf. With really beautiful weather we did a great tour today, the blue sky gave us many beautiful impressions of the landscape, which is reflected in the photos. 😊
https://www.tourenportal-thueringer-wald.de/mobile/de/tour/wandern/rundwandern-extratour-der-meininger/43839889/ Unfortunately, the online GPX data does not always match the signage..... Komoot says left, sign says right or vice versa 🙄. But in the end the paths meet again after a few hundred meters.
The extra tour - the Meininger begins for us at the free car park at the Volkshaus Meiningen on Landsberger Strasse. The path briefly goes along the Werra to the Elisabethenburg Castle, then leads quite steeply to the "Diezhäuschen". Here you can enjoy a wonderful panoramic view of the town of Meiningen in a fantastic view. We continue at a brisk pace to the first stamp point 254, the "Kallberg". Very unspectacular, like the other 2 stamp points on this tour. At stamp 255, the Marienplatz, and also at 256, the Fliederhain, there was no explanation of the highlights other than the stamp box. The interpretation of the stamp points is left up to the hiker themselves.
Start / finish: Meiningen, train station Route: Elisabethenburg Castle - Arched Bridge - Schaubach Hut - Coffee Trail - Vorderer Kammweg - Habichtsburg Ruin - Marienplatz - Prinz-Ernst-Platz - Forest Playground - Henriettenplatz - Lilac Grove - Dietrichskopf - Reinhold Goetz Mountain Garden - Helenenstr. - Arched Bridge - Hotel Sächsischer Hof My tour today was a very beautiful, ideal autumn hike with all the charm of the foliage colors and super good autumn weather 😊🍀. The tour mostly led along natural forest floors and through mixed beech forests. At the crossroads, old signposts carved in stone... totally crazy that the stone signposts are so well maintained in this region. I particularly liked these old stone signposts on the tour 👍😊🍀. A wonderful view over Meiningen from the Schaubach Hut. The Habichtsburg ruins were on the former trade route between Würzburg and Gotha. At Henriettenplatz it is worth taking a rest under beautiful maple trees. Unfortunately I didn't have much time left for the Goetze Berggarten because I wanted to do my 🚂. The time and average speed given by Komoot do not match my actual time and average speed... I wasn't going that fast 👀🤪. 🙋♀️
Today we did the special tour “Der Meininger” at the end of the Rhön discovery weekend. Nice round, moderate climbs, beautiful views of Meiningen. You have to be careful at the Schaubachhütte - here you can walk on the shorter ridge path to the Habichtsburg ruins or back a little and continue on the extra tour. We decided on the extra tour. Finally, we stopped by Elisabethenburg Castle and enjoyed delicious home-baked cakes and tarts in the tower cafe. Meiningen has turned out well - many beautiful old villas, some of them half-timbered. Definitely worth coming back. For me the Rhön is a place worth seeing😊 Overnight stays in the Sennhütte/Fladenen are recommended; Breakfast and dinner were very tasty. However, you should take into account that the Sennhütte is located at 753m and is therefore somewhat harsher in terms of climate.
Why wander into the distance when ... a beautiful premium hiking trail is so close. Autumn showed itself once again from its mild golden side and invited to enjoy the last rays of sunshine. Colors are an ephemeral gift of nature.
A beautiful circuit on the west side of Meiningen, marked with the red "M". You sometimes have beautiful views of different sides of Meiningen. The Prinz Ernst Platz is very idyllic, apart from the dead spruce trees. And don't forget the Goetzhöhle. It's worth a visit.
🥾 Premium Hiking Trail "Der Meininger" – Culture Meets Nature The premium hiking trail "Der Meininger" begins at the magnificent Elisabethenburg Palace in Meiningen and leads up to the Schaubachhütte, a magnificent vantage point overlooking the Werra Valley. 🌳⛰️ A real highlight is the fairytale Landsberg Palace, which rises picturesquely above the landscape. The return route leads over the Dietrichskopf and the mysterious Götzhöhle cave – an exciting descent into the depths of the Rhön geology. 🏰🕳️ This extra tour offers a successful blend of culture, history, and nature – ideal for taking a deep breath and exploring. So the motto here is: Start, slow down, and enjoy. 😇
