The Ice Age Hunters' Trail in Blaubeuren leads along the many rock formations of the rock labyrinth and to caves of the Ice Age people (UNESCO World Heritage Site). From the train station we go up to the Spectacle Cave and the rock labyrinth. Continue to the Günzelburg ruins with a great view of the Achtal. From there down into the valley and to the opposite side of the valley with several rocks and caves (UNESCO World Heritage Site). Up to the Gaißenklösterle cave and further to the Bischofsfelsen. Over the heights to the Schillerfels with a beautiful view of the Blaubeurer Valley and down to the starting point.
Ice Age Trails 16/20 ✔️ I haven't walked an Ice Age Trail for a long time. So today I tackled the Ice Age Hunters Trail, a rather shorter but incredibly worth seeing tour. The 9.5km alternate highlights and beautiful paths, but you do have to really puff up the mountain twice. I particularly liked the Schillerstein, the Geißenklösterle and the Günzelburg ruins with their dream view, and the sea of rocks with the Kissing Pig was a nice finale. The tour is actually intended to be the other way round, but I deliberately turned it around because I've already walked in the sea of rocks and now wanted to see it from the other direction. There are still 4 Ice Age Trails left, then this project will be done.
Just like its northern twin, the "Felsenstieg", the "Eiszeitjägerpfad" offers extremely enjoyable hiking. But rather not at ground level, because almost 400 meters in altitude over less than ten kilometers have to be mastered. Except around the train station and in front of/in Weiler, you are always on paths, and even more often on velvety paths.
Since I had 2 hours until an appointment, I took the opportunity to "hunt" my 2/20 ice age paths. https://www.tourismus.alb-donau-kreis.de/thema/eiszeitpfade-20-neue-wanderwege/ Great area, surprising views and rock formations, but also tough climbs... All in all a really nice round.
I was out with a very dear colleague today. It was a beautiful afternoon on a great tour.... You should just enjoy it more often.
That's a really nice after-work tour in Blaubeuren. Except for Blautopf and Russenschloss everything is included. Parking at the train station in Blaubeuren and then it goes straight to the altitude meters. The glasses cave, kissing sow and the ruins of Günzelburg are the well-known places. There it goes down, through hamlets and on the other side of the valley up again. There to the Schillerstein with an incredibly beautiful view. Bit of a demanding tour that is always fun. 👍😁
