Hike loop 6 in Treuchlingen in perfect autumn weather. Fantastically beautiful tour with many great impressions ... can only be recommended ....
The weather wasn't the best, but the tour was really nice. Varied, fields, forests, meadows, towns, villages... a bit of everything. I liked it ☺️
Always happy, this Altmühltal. From BHF Martkbreit (RB 80 in the direction of Munich) you can get to Treuchtlingen pretty quickly 😬. That must be used. The tour with the original GPS track and the best description can be found here: https://www.naturpark-altmuehltal.de/routen/altmuehlblick-1350/ It starts at the Altmühl, then it goes a little higher for a panorama tour, on which you get a lot of foresight with a focus on Treuchtlingen. This also made up for the little stalking through forests, which is my preference. Forest is also there but only bissel on the edge. Beautiful village. Houses often former and renovated farms that make up the typical charm of this Middle Franconia. Very entertaining tour, although I have screwed up the km. Could have continued 😀
A crisp, wintry scent hangs in the air as we step outside this morning ❄️. Dancing snowflakes brush against our warm faces, and a gentle breeze swirls the snow crystals before it 🌬️✨. All morning long, the Altmühl Valley welcomes us to its winter wonderland, welcomes us to the "Altmühlblick" loop trail 🥾. This 18-kilometer loop takes us through the gently rolling Franconian Jura ⛰️. In just over four hours 🕰️, we experience a little journey through time and the wintry landscape surrounding the Altmühl River ❄️. The trail lifts us away from the everyday hustle and bustle. We immerse ourselves in tranquil forests 🌲. We are accompanied by sweeping views across the Altmühl Valley, and we encounter villages nestled in the landscape like postcard scenes 🏡📮, and the Altmühl River's bends shimmering in the light ✨💧. Our first highlight is the "Obere Veste," the remains of a medieval hilltop castle dating back to the 12th century 🏰. The complex once served as a strategically important point of power and control over the trade routes in the Altmühl Valley. Today, the excavated ruins are secured and freely accessible. Information panels bring the history of the site to life 📜, while from here a panoramic view opens up over Treuchtlingen 👀. We then pass through Treuchtlingen and meander along the Altmühl River 🚶♂️💧. On Nagelberg Hill, we stand briefly in awe above the war graves before the path leads down into the agricultural landscape with its old orchards 🍎🌾 and finally to the venerable Charlemagne's Canal. The Fossa Carolina is Charlemagne's bold and unfinished canal project, intended to connect the Rhine and Danube river systems. 🌾💧 The day is slowly drawing to a close as we arrive at Bubenheimer Berg Hill 🌅. Warm, orange-yellow winter light settles over the Altmühl Valley, painting the sky and rocks in breathtaking hues 🧡 and bringing the landscape to a moment of complete stillness. It's hard to imagine that this very gentle landscape was once shaped by the immense forces of a meteorite impact ☄️. We enjoy the expansive view and the tranquility from up here. A perfect end to this wonderful circular hike ✨. Warm, orange-yellow winter light settles over the Altmühl Valley, painting the sky and rocks in breathtaking hues 🧡 and bringing a moment of profound stillness to the landscape. Conveniently, the route is signposted as a certified loop of the Altmühltal Panorama Trail, is easy to walk, and also easily accessible by public transport 🚉 — ideal for a full but relaxing day outdoors 🌿. Those who keep their time and eyes open will take home not just steps, but also stories. ✨
Today I was drawn to the Altmühl again, more precisely to Treuchtlingen, to follow another loop path of the Altmühltal Panorama Trail. A loop path that knows how to inspire. At the beginning you follow the idyllic Altmühl, before going a bit up the Nagelberg and you have a wonderful view over Treuchtlingen and the Altmühltal. Of course I didn't miss the short detour to the Villa Rustica and admired the remains of the Roman walls in beautiful surroundings. The next historical highlight came from the Middle Ages, from the time of Charlemagne. The Fossa Carolina, also known as the Karlsgraben, was intended to connect the river systems between the Rhine and the Danube and was thus a forerunner of the Main-Danube Canal. Today the Karlsgraben is one of Bavaria's 100 most beautiful geotopes. And it is indeed a wonderful piece of nature. The beaver seems to have settled there and a grey heron flew up as I walked along the dam. Next came the Bubenheimer Berg, which is geologically interesting. Here, rock types from the impact of the Ries meteorite 15 million years ago can be found. At the same time, the geotope offers beautiful views of the surrounding area. Before heading back to Treuchtlingen, you pass old buildings hidden in the forest that were probably related to the mining of Treuchtlingen marble. In Treuchtlingen, you go back to the starting point of the hike via the well-preserved "Alte Veste" castle ruins. A hike that has historical and geological interest to offer and leads through beautiful and varied landscapes.
Calm, sunny hike.
When the tour deviated from the Patrichberg (I really wanted to go up there), the GPS left me 🙄 then we continued cross-country 🫣
Today before the big 🚂strike we did a quick, easy lap from Treuchtlingen. Highlights were the European watershed🌊, the Karlsgraben🌊 (the forerunner of the Main-Danube Canal, so to speak) and the Treuchtlingen city castle🏰.
