Küstenkind 🌊
April 29, 2025, Frühlingsrunde um den Nonnensee - #MeinRügen

It's nice when, between shopping and everyday errands, you can squeeze in an hour to walk around Nonnensee. A fresh breeze blows, the sky is a brilliant blue and white, the sun beats down on the black dachshund's fur, ... and off we go.

Just a short 🤏 walk 🚶‍♂️ around Lake Nonnen near Bergen. There are several beautiful viewpoints 🔭 and information panels 🪧 around the lake 🔄️, detailing the lake's history and wildlife 🦅🦆🪿. Recorded with a Garmin GPSmap 66i, according to Garmin, I took 6,982 steps 🚶‍♂️ and covered an area 🗺️ of 1.43 km² 🔄️.

Today we repeated the tour we did at Nonnensee in spring (www.komoot.de/tour/762272795). We were again amazed at how many birds there are to see. This time we had also thought of binoculars - it's worth it, because you don't get so close to the lake that you can see the different birds with the naked eye. In addition, the two observation towers on the lake are ideal for observation. Mainly we saw large concentrations of different ducks, egrets, gulls and cormorants, but we could also see birds of prey circling - but unfortunately no white-tailed eagle. The cormorants sat on wood, branches or broken reeds in the lake - the breeding colony from the spring was deserted. We saw the dead trees and the abandoned nests. The sky was often overcast today and a strong, cold wind blew, but the rain lasted less than 10 seconds - so the best hiking weather. And: there was hardly anyone on the road again. 👍

Nature trail at Nonnensee (Further information at: https://www.stadt-bergen-auf-ruegen.de/Stadtleben/Bergen-erleben/Natur-und-Erholung/Nonnensee/) The round around the Nonnensee was simply wonderful. Lots of birds have found a habitat here. The cormorant colonies in particular were impressive. There are also many gray geese living there, as well as ducks and swans. Songbirds also find nesting sites and food here. The area is easy to walk on and two observation towers offer a good view over the lake. It is worth stopping by here at different (seasonal) times, as you can always discover other animal species and the plants also constantly change the landscape. It was almost deserted around the lake and so we could enjoy nature to the fullest.

We expected more from the Nonnensee circuit. Maybe it was the weather. The path is too far from the water.

We took the tour from the collection "Island Hiking on Rügen - The Magic of Silence". The first 1.5 km run through a settlement, along a road and across a supermarket car park, which wasn't so great. The starting point should therefore be a car park by the lake. The circular route is very beautiful. You should bring a pair of binoculars. The path offers no shade, so it's not suitable for hot summer days.☀️

I've been planning the tour for years. Today the weather is quite changeable. So nothing for the beach. We drive to the designated parking lot. It used to be right on B Street. Oh wonder, there is still no parking ticket machine. 😍 We walk from the parking lot to the lake shore and further to a colony of komorans. There's a lot going on. Luckily I have my tele attachment for my cell phone with me. Because of the strong wind, focusing and keeping still was a gamble. I hope the recordings are halfway successful. About record roads it goes in the direction of B96. On the meadows there we see 3 storks. Tele out again and try what works. Then it goes to the 2nd bird observatory. yes there are 2 of them Continue over the hill to the educational forest trail to the burial mound.

A very nice walk around the Nonnensee near Bergen. The parking lot on the way to Stadthof Bergen is new and offers space for around 15 cars. The path is well developed and very easy to walk on even in bad weather!
