Salet Pier at Lake Königssee

Highlight • Rest Area

Last stop and turning point for shipping on the Königssee. Beautiful hikes start from here around the Obersee, to Fischunkelalm or to Rötbachfall. From late morning onwards, it can get very crowded here. Those who want to enjoy a bit more peace and quiet should take one of the earlier boats.

According to legend, the land was once ruled by the cruel King Waze or Wazemann, who spread fear and terror with his wife and children. When he crushed a farming family with his horse, the farmer's wife cursed that God should turn him and his family into stone. Then the earth opened, spit fire and turned the king and his family into stone. In some variants of the legend is still told that the king and Obersee had arisen by the merged blood of the royal family and Watzmanns dogs crashed at the dog death

In Obersee are numerous fish species, including especially Arctic char and lake trout. With luck, they can be observed.

Wasseralm Mountain Hut

Highlight • Mountain Hut

DAV hut, which is supplied with fresh supplies by helicopter every week, so the hut is a little more expensive... muesli at €17 or beer at €6.50... In return you get a rustic hut feeling with free Rotwild cinema in the evening.

Obersee (Upper Lake)

Highlight (Segment) • Lake

The path from the Saletalm to the Fischunkelalm leads along the banks of the Obersee, in places the path is narrow and steep. The hiking trail is also secured by a railing (ropes) on the rock face on the banks of the Obersee.
The Obersee

Separated from the Königssee by a moraine wall since a landslide in 1172, the Obersee is the little brother of the Königsee. From the Fischunkelalm the ascent to the Röth or to the Wasseralm is possible; This makes it a popular starting point for mountain tours into the Steinerne Meer.
Fischunkelalm & Röthbachfall
The Fischunkelalm is a managed alpine hut on the southeastern bank of the Obersee. Above the Fischunkelalm is the Röthbachfall, the highest waterfall in Germany. In the summer months, the Alm is managed and a popular place to stop for refreshments.

You are certainly not alone on this hike, but it is still worth it, because the reflections of the mountains in the lake are something very special!

September 8, 2023,Steinernes Meer HüttenTour: Wasseralm - Königssee
Descent via the Röthsteig. Demanding but not difficult. No climbing gear required. Lots of protection in the form of ropes and steps. Then we head into shocking civilization with a bunch of day-trippers and Instagram posers. Still very nice.

The altitude meters are wrong! Are only about 900 Hm! The Röthensteig is steep but well secured!

Showing Translation

The descent is steep and requires scrambling, so keep your hands free. It's also worth setting off relatively early to cover as much ground as possible before the valley tourists arrive by boat. The view of the lake is wonderful, though.

24.9. Sun Day 11 The weather slowly seems to be improving again. At least it's no longer raining as we make our way down to Königssee. Olli, Dad and I took the same route 5 years ago. Today we have to be careful, the newly created small stream also uses the exposed path down to the Obersee. When we arrive …
