Briese Wetlands

Highlight • Natural

The swamp is the Briese. This spot is probably the most spectacular - for me it is one of the top highlights around Berlin. The Briese is only recommended for cycling at off-peak times, otherwise it is in the hands of hikers. The landscape is spectacular in any case!

Beaver dam

Highlight • Natural

The water slowly seeps through the beaver dam.
While the water is still completely green, it is crystal clear after flowing through the dam.

The Erlenbruchwald is a totally fascinating landscape. It looks idyllic, somewhat fairytale-like and bizarre at the same time.

"Alder swamp forests often grow on better nutrient-supplied fen soils with a focus on planar to submontane regions. The dominant character species black alder (Alnus glutinosa) gives it its name. The trunk foot provided with stilt roots is typical for the trees; Thanks to its adventitious roots, the black alder can cope with heavy waterlogging and fluctuating water levels comparatively better than many other tree species.”

Damned Briese

Highlight • Forest

The Briese is a small, non-navigable tributary of the Havel. It meanders here through a glacial channel with alder forest and is largely natural. Great! The atmosphere is incomparable and you can hardly imagine that the capital is just around the corner.

The Erlenbruchwald at the Briese is something very special and rare.

A natural spectacle beyond compare: The Briesetal was mined by glacier movements during the Ice Age and leads its river - the Briese - very leisurely. In principle, the water stands and it resembles a fairy-tale marshland, which houses many animals. We saw several squirrels, saw woodpeckers knocking and swans and ducks swimming.

There are also several information boards and a small nature trail for young and old.

Black alders that can grow in water, beaver dams, beaver lodges, fen meadows, an interesting landscape. Depending on the time of year, many birds could be heard and seen, including a flirting pair of black woodpeckers.
The kiosk in the Birkenkrug was open and also offered a clean toilet.
For the heavily rooted and quite uneven path, I recommend half-height …

The Briesetal is always beautiful, in every season 😄

From a small parking lot on the road between Summt and Oranienburg to the village of Briese.

Beautiful hiking trail to the right and left. Almost like a moor, but it's a stream.

Not barrier-free.

With super nice weather ☀️☀️... a great hike along the Briese 🥾🥰😆
Unfortunately we didn't have that much time 🥺, otherwise we would have gone even further to the forester's house 😊🥾🥾.

If the camera is new, to be on the safe side I go to familiar territory: the Briesetal.
No matter when, no matter what the weather, for me this is one of the most beautiful places in Brandenburg and I just can't get enough of it.

At the end of our OPR/OHV hiking trip, a tour through the Briesetal, which had been on my wish list for a long time, but was too far away. So now enthusiasm because of the beautiful valley, which was not so populated on a workday; only met 11 people. Really nice! And you can be happy about the muddy paths: …
