The port, together with workshops for Vistula shipping, was built in a branch (oxbow lake) of the Vistula in the years 1850–1865. Until 1965, a river shipyard operated in the port. There is a bicycle trail nearby (part of the Vistula Bicycle Trail). At the port outlet there is a flood gate, and in the middle is the Łazienkowski Bridge. You can enter the headland area via Zaruskiego Street, and the former shipyard area via an alley that is an extension of Łazienkowska Street. The Czerniakowski Canal (Main Canal "A") and the Piaseczyński Canal have their outlets in the Port Canal.
