Schurenbachhalde

Highlight • Viewpoint

The Schurenbachhalde in the north of Essen is the city's largest. Once you've found the way to the top, numerous, partly beautifully prepared single trails lead down. On the large summit plateau, there is an upright, huge slab as a landmark, which is visible from afar.

The view from the top offers you a panoramic view of the heart of the Ruhr area. To the south lies Essen with its many skyscrapers at the main station, where corporate headquarters are located. To the east, you see the white roof of the Arena Auf Schalke, and to the north and west, the chimneys of the extensive industrial areas of Essen, Bottrop, and Gelsenkirchen smoke on both sides of the Rhine-Herne Canal. A Pilsner up here (you have to bring your own, you can't buy anything here) at sunset is pure Ruhrpott romance!

Schurenbachhalde

Highlight • Structure

Particularly beautiful hall. Not only because of the nice unpaved climb, but also because of the special plateau at the top, where the wind has free play and the special monument catches your eye... only then the view ;-)

Grimberg sickle

Highlight (Segment) • Bridge

Get on the bike at the Jahrhunderthalle in Bochum, cycle on the Erzbahn route up to the Zoom Erlebniswelt in Gelsenkirchen and then continue the tour through the Emscherbruch to the Hoheward heap in the district of Recklinghausen: the new pedestrian and cyclist bridge over the Rhein-Herne canal at the harbor Grimberg makes that possible. It connects the recreational areas north and south of the canal directly and without long detours.

The asymmetrical steel structure, whose name Grimberger Sichel was found at a public competition, crosses the canal in a semicircular arc on the western edge of the harbor. Suspended only by a 48 meter high steel pylon on the north side of the canal, the curved bridge has a span of around 150 meters. The northern, 37-meter-long ramp is formed by concrete retaining walls, and the southern, 34-meter-long ramp is made as a dam. More than 600 cubic meters of concrete and 235 meters of large bored piles for the abutments as well as 400 tons of steel and 465 meters of rope for the suspended structure were used.

The bridge was awarded the 2010 European Steel Bridges Award by the European Steel Construction Convention. This honors outstanding steel bridge constructions in Europe.

...after a complete failure of my left balance organ, I covered a few kilometers on my bike for the first time today - yeahhhh... 😍

Showing Translation

yes, what can I say ... at high speed to the selected meeting point at short notice and then took a giant chat break. Then unwound the rest of the round. Therefore only one picture with the reversing camera
True was nice and will be repeated ... see you soon.

Get a nice pack with lots of wind power from the front and hydropower from above .... I love it
It's a shame that it didn't work out for us today Alf ... but tomorrow ... same route, same corner?
and pack bathing suits ... no hearty tour :)

Finally seahorses ...
1. Knowing about bathing rules ... of course swimming trunks and swimming cap included ...
2nd jump from the edge of the pool ... clear, small step built in ...
3. Fetching things ... Sure, patch kits from the depths of my backpack ...

Get your clothes on...and pick up a little pack of rain.
